I remember this being one of the first MZX games I've ever played... back in 1996 I was really impressed with the fluid animation of the lead character (a bouncing dark cyan slime), the varied levels, and the abundance of platform game staples like coins, springs, traps, and monsters militantly marching left and right.
Slimed doesn't have much of a story to speak of, as it is a demo, after all. You're just thrown into a Mario styled world map, able to take on a number of different levels in any order you choose. The levels, as I've mentioned before, are very varied. You have your snow level, with ice that slides you back and forth... the lava level, the desert level, and the like. Cliched as far as typical 16-bit era platformer games go, yes, but the variety in this game has yet to be outdone in MZX.
I'm not gonna let nostalgia cloud my judgement here... this game has . First of all, it was never (to my knowledge) completed. While there is certainly a ton of content (more so than the majority of MZX sidescrollers that aren't named "Adlo"), people may be disappointed there is no epic conclusion. Secondly, this game has the bane of every MZX sidescroller fan... jumping on 1x1 platforms. You'll frequently fall down and die unless you make extremely precise jumps. A final problem is the lack of music... while not really game-breaking, a nice soundtrack would add even more character.
