A Special Edition generally refers to an older MZX game that has been revamped with improved graphics, enhanced sound and music, and tweaked gameplay. Notable examples of games that have had Special Editions include Engine, Honor Quest, Weirdness, and Cans; often, they are revamped by someone other than the creator.

Day of Zeux games tend to be similarly re-released, usually to fix bugs the creators did not have time to extinguish in the competition. Dark Nova, Siphrian and Termination are three DoZ games given this treatment.
