The Summer 2009 Dualstream Day of Zeux was hosted by Wervyn and started on Saturday, June 27th, 2009, 4PM GMT (ending the same time the next day). The topics were "Paranoia" and "News Reporters". The judges were MZXGiant, pyro1588, KKairos, Terryn, and Wervyn himself (in an attempt to set a post-anonymity precedent for hosts as judges). Like previous DoZs, this one also had a perceived lack of interest in the pre-DoZ period, despite (or perhaps because of) early exhortations and advertisements; but in the end twelve entries were received. In what was considered to be a sign of an upward trend in effort and participation, the majority of the entries were received as good, quality games or better. The DoZ also consisted of almost entirely solo entries, with only two games being produced by teams, and one of those put together by Kom, the solitary remaining teammate after his partners CJA and Malwyn failed to show up. logicow also provided the obligatory DoZ drama, posting a lengthy complaint about the DoZ before the dust had even settled, and Leaving In A Huff. His game was the one disqualification in the competition, on counts of theme relevance, and of failing to run in MZX 2.82b (since he had produced it in the SVN development version).
Expanding on the stricter judging policies he requested in the past, Wervyn vowed that results would be produced within a week of the competition's end, with detailed comments and appropriate scores from all judges. He made the decision to use five judges specifically so that one or two scoresheets could be dropped as a contingency without severely diluting the effect of having multiple scoresheets. As it turned out, all five judges made good on the deadline and standard of quality, and all five scoresheets were counted. Another important change made to the rules in this DoZ was the separation of scoresheets from DoZ topics, such that the theme-centric set of scores could be used with the Concrete (rebranded from "Specific") topic, and vice versa with regard to the Abstract topic and theme-light sheet. This had been discussed and requested for over a year, but this was its first implementation, with generally positive results.

This DoZ saw a major preference for the Paranoia topic and theme-light scoresheet. Interestingly, two of the games would have scored better if they had used the theme-heavy scoresheet instead: Goshi's game Paranoid Heavens, and nooodl's game California Rookie. Goshi chose his sheet on purpose, but nooodl was unaware of the new scoresheet rule (even after repeated announcements), and neglected to pick a sheet. The scores also show that this was an extremely high quality DoZ, sporting two games of excellent quality (75%-85%), four games of good quality (60%-70%), and two games that would have been on more beneficial scoresheets, but still topped average quality (50%-60%). Logicow's disqualified game was also worthwhile as a technical curiosity at the very least.
