I scored the games RAW PERCENTAGE-WISE. Partly so I could check percentage-wise scores in each subject against common-sense more easily. Then I approximated that raw percentage using a nifty if-then I wrote on my spreadsheet. At the end I rounded up to the nearest whole number for each game's total score. Now I'm writing this. It's going to be pretty short and sweet. Now this was a pretty sparse DoZ. I'm not complaining because that means less work for me. Let us begin. --------------------------------------------------------- #0: VIOLENCE MAKES YOU STUPID VIOLENCE / THEME-LITE --------------------------------------------------------- THEME: 55% : 11. For a joke game this was decently on-topic. GAMEPLAY: 40% : 48. For a joke game this one had decent gameplay. GRAPHICS: 27% : 24.3. For a joke game this game had...well the graphics were about par for the course. STORY: 40% : 20. You read this right. I did find at least the style of storytelling if not the actual story, what there was of it, better than ThDPro's game. TECHNIQUE: 35% : 28. It does joke game. It knows its limits. SOUND: 50% : 20. Surprisingly not-awful music. TOTAL:39% : 164. Joke games probably shouldn't score this high. --------------------------------------------------------- #47238: MISSION: MOST LIKELY HORRIBLY INCOMPLETE ESPIONAGE / THEME-LITE --------------------------------------------------------- THEME: 70% : 14. Spies? Check. GAMEPLAY: 50% : 60. Gameplay? Check. And once I testplayed through to the main gameplay board it wasn't bad. GRAPHICS: 30% : 27. Gaphics? Check. I'm developing a certain affinity for the old-sckool style of things. Not great, but not terrible. STORY: 65% : 32.5. What saves this category is the sense of humor with which the story is told. TECHNIQUE: 55% : 44. Broken game-flow and not-so-flowy side-view action made this category go down. Still, considering what was attempted... SOUND: 20% : 8. Just a game over-theme. Still, it's a cool theme. TOTAL: 47% : 186. I wish this game could be higher on the list, I really do. Next time, old-sckool. --------------------------------------------------------- #-1: ALL THAT VIOLENCE VIOLENCE / THEME-HEAVY --------------------------------------------------------- THEME: 100% : 100. Violence? Yes. GAMEPLAY: 30% : 27. Why? It's 1-part ingenuity and then three parts frustration. The game needs better controls, fairer enemies, or both. GRAPHICS: 40% : 28. It's decently pretty but visually came up a bit short somehow; I almost would say the individual tiles are better than the whole they make up. STORY: 30% : 15. It's about violence. And it's not...terrible. TECHNIQUE: 50% : 30. Really, it feels like controls could've been handled much better. That much better. SOUND: 10% : 3. This is actually worse sound-wise than just having the game-over theme. TOTAL: 51% : 203. The game was so dang frustrating. It should've had a higher fun factor. --------------------------------------------------------- #3.14159+: DEMONS DEMONS EVERYWHERE VIOLENCE / THEME-HEAVY --------------------------------------------------------- THEME: 65% : 65. Check, violence. GAMEPLAY: 60% : 54. Check, gameplay. BBH knows his style and he went for it here. Not the best game ever, but still. GRAPHICS: 40% : 28. Check, graphics. Standard BBH, maybe a bit less. STORY: 25% : 12.5. Barely. TECHNIQUE: 45% : 27. Most of the points BBH got from me here, he got for doing what he does and it not being broken. SOUND: 60% : 18. Doom sounds went surprisingly far. TOTAL: 51% : 205. Beat out All That Violence by a nose. --------------------------------------------------------- #7865: ANGER IS AN ENERGY VIOLENCE / THEME-HEAVY --------------------------------------------------------- THEME: 80% : 80. Violence? lots of it. GAMEPLAY: 75% : 67.5. Got easier near the end. Could have been a tad less ridiculous in key places. GRAPHICS: 75% : 52.5. Kom and NiMa make a good team here. Sometimes when you got angry, seeing things got more frustrating than hard in a fair way. STORY: 80% : 40. I liked the style of the serious story and NiMa's silly storytelling helped even more. Good show. TECHNIQUE: 80% : 48. Most of this was good; the only thing I might really say about this category aside from "solid" goes under graphics. SOUND: 60% : 25.5. Good selection of music here. TOTAL: 79% : 314. Good show, Kom and NiMa. --------------------------------------------------------- #98485: Thanatos Insignia VIOLENCE / THEME-LITE --------------------------------------------------------- THEME: 70% : 14. Violence? Yep. But it got a tad...different near the end. GAMEPLAY: 80% : 96. Lancer-style gameplay works yet again here. Catching the little flying things was a tad more frustrating than challenging in places, though. GRAPHICS: 85% : 76.5. Lachesis's style worked pretty awesomely here. She really came through, on backgrounds but also on the main char which may be one of my favorite 1x1's in all of MZX. STORY: 75% : 37.5. It was to my mind a typical Lancer-ish story in which there was a surface level I could vaguely understand, and another level that might be just in my imagination, but that I'm missing entirely whether or not it exists. To be honest, after awhile, I want some connections to just be made for me. The disjointed style works, but in this competition it wasn't my favorite of the bunch. TECHNIQUE: 90% : 72. Lancer and Lachesis, two great tastes that taste great together. SOUND: 80% : 32. Good choice of...random music. TOTAL: 82% : 328. Did anyone not see this coming?
